Slate
The unusually rich surface patina of the exposed surface of slate - as well as the intense rust colorations as manifested in our Rusty Grey and Rusty Green Slate - contribute to its beauty and natural, rustic appearance.
Durable, frost-proof and slip resistant, the material is supplied in random shapes as well as in cut forms pavers, pool coping, stair treads, wall veneer and gauged flagstone flooring.
It is ideal for patios, walkways, pool decks and a range of architectural applications.
Traditionally, slate is used as a sized paving or flagstone or it can be dressed to form curbs or pool coping. Combining slate with other materials highlights the qualities and assets of both.
Slate is originally a sedimentary deposit of compressed clay and shale. The primary mineral components are mica and quartz.
The degree of force and heat exerted on the deposit during its formation determines the density of the slate. High-density slates remain intact more consistently than lower-density varieties, which separate more easily.
